 After Christ Ministry

Apostle Rudolph Ellis

Apostle Rudolph Ellis along with his wife, Senior Pastor Lois Ellis are the founders of After Christ Ministry and the After Christ Christian Center in Detroit, Michigan.

In 1985, Rudolph Ellis, after more than 20 years of alcohol and drug abuse, was asked by his pastor, the Late Elder James E. Slappy, to begin heading a satellite location of the Alcoholics for Christ, a 12-Step Bible Based Program which met on Monday nights at Calvary Church of God In Christ.  He accepted and for the next two years he and his wife, Lois continued as the program’s leaders, positively affecting thousands of individuals (men, women and children) via television, radio and their Monday night meetings.  In 1987, God saw fit to charge Bro. Rudy to begin a much similar program, with the mission to reach beyond traditional boundaries of the church and minister to all of God’s children regardless of their gender, race, social class or lifestyle.  It was to especially focus on transforming the lives of individuals who have been adversely affected by drugs, alcohol and other illicit substances, as well as by other debilitating social conditions.  In obedience to this charge He was to name it The After Christ Ministry with the foundational scripture being II Corinth. 5:17 – “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”  Also between 1987 and 1994 God elevated Bro. Rudy from Brother to Minister to Elder.

In 1994, God gave Elder Rudy favor with a Pastor Betty L. Thomas in Highland Park, Michigan who freely allowed the After Christ Ministry to continue their Monday night meetings at her church.  For the next two years Pastor Betty saw to it that the doors of the Faith Tabernacle Church be opened every Monday night for the After Christ Ministry.

To date After Christ Ministry remains a successful, vibrant, active 12-Step Bible Based Program; helping, delivering, and healing.  As for the After Christ Christian Center, it is now under the leadership of Senior Pastor George Adams, Jr.

Pastor Lois Ellis

Lois accepted Christ as her savior on September 9, 1977, at the Calvary Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the Late Elder James E. Slappy, Jr.  Although she welcomed Jesus Christ into her heart she had yet to fully experience His delivering power from the pains and scars of her past.  She had been a victim of much emotional, mental and physical abuse.  Lois suffered a breakdown in 1980 and admitted herself into a mental hospital.  Her stay there was brief but it was during this stay that she really sought the Lord God for help/guidance.  With that seeking the cycle of abuse began to break and the healing power of God entered in its place helping her to realize and accept that God had a purpose for her life.

Lois’ longing for Christ and desiring to gain more knowledge of God’s word lead her to many different avenues of learning.  She attended William Tyndale Bible College in Farmington Hills, Michigan along with taking other bible training classes throughout Metro Detroit, under the tutelage of several different pastors.  In her endeavors she began to have a passion to share the Word of God with men who struggled with alcohol and substance abuse.

In obedience to the call and the anointing of God on her life concerning men, in 1980 Lois organized and facilitated a men’s bible class.  In 1981, she became re-acquainted with her high school sweetheart, Rudolph Ellis, who had now succumbed to a lifestyle of alcohol and drug abuse.  She ministered the word of God to him and he accepted it.  As she continued in the way with the men she ministered to, Bro. Rudy fought the good fight of faith and won her hand in marriage in 1983.  They continued together, ministering to men afflicted with drug and alcohol dependencies.

In 1985, Lois was appointed to teach the Young Adult Sunday School Class at Calvary Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of the Late Pastor James E. Slappy.

In 1994, after faithfully serving at the Calvary Church of God In Christ and also continuing with a 12-Step Bible Based Program (now the After Christ Ministry) Lois and her husband joined the Dunamis Outreach Ministries under the pastorage of Reginald M. Lane.  While at Dunamis and continuing with the After Christ Ministry, God began to direct her attention to hurting women.  Pastor Lane later ordained the both of them and established them as Associate Pastors.

Pastor Lois later retired from General Motors in 1999 after 30 years of faithful service.  During her tenure with General Motors, she organized and ran a bible study in the plant that continued until her retirement.

Pastor Lois’ passion for seeing hurting women free has caused her to be a sought after speaker to women.  She, along with her husband continue in their dedication hope; giving people from all walks of life a hope that they can be free from whatever binds them, regardless of their race, gender, social class or lifestyle.
